Penelope Sky has new details about her highly anticipated new story, The Chateau. Check out the QA she did:
Question: How many books will be in this series?
Pene: It’s a duet, actually.
Question: What’s something you want readers to know about this story.
Pene: Two things. One, this is the most unique story I’ve ever written. I actually wrote it before Buttons, and I came across it when I was going through an old hard drive. I rewrote a couple things, flushed out some other stuff, but overall, it’s a really special story. Two, it’s the best story I’ve written. When I say “best”, I mean it has a really strong plot, unique and original characters, and this incredible pacing. You’ll see what I mean…
Question: what’s the male lead like? Is he like Heath from the Betrothed series or any more like Crow and the Buttons series?
Pene: Wow, you couldn’t pick two men less similar. LOL. He’s definitely more like Crow. With Crow, he’s so numb by all of his cruel experiences that he simply doesn’t feel very much. For him to care about somebody, they have to earn it. It takes a long time, but when it does, he’s loyal. And I think that’s really beautiful, seeing a man so hard slowly fall in love, without even knowing it…
Question: we’ve all read the synopsis but what is the story about?
Pene: I see it as areally powerful love story. We’ve got this really horrendous backdrop in this labor camp near the French Alps. Raven winds up there because she was trying to protect her sister, and as a result, they both wind up in the same place. Our man is also stuck there…just under different pretenses. He’s her guard, but we start to see that he’s nothing like them…and then we start to see how complicated things become once the stakes get higher and higher. It’s a story about forgiveness and redemption. It’s about finding love in the darkest place. I don’t wanna say much else because I don’t wanna spoil anything. But I will say it’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written.
Question: Her name is Raven. Isn’t that the same thing as a crow?
Pene: You caught that, huh? Yes, that was intentional…
Question: It’s a romance, but how else would you describe it?
Pene: It’s definitely a survival story. Pearl had to survive one circumstance, and Raven has to survive another.
Question: Who’s the villain?
Pene: They call him The Boss.
Question: Who’s they?
Pene: The characters, I guess… Sorry, I know I create these stories and characters but it feels real to me so…
Question: Will we see a crossover with other characters like we did with Betrothed?
Pene: Not in the flesh, but you might hear about some other characters. However, I got an idea for a crossover story. Something that happens in this timeline that includes a former Skull King…Richard. Wouldn’t that be fun? If you read it, you might see where I’m going with this.
Question: What’s your favorite book you’ve written?
Pene: How. Dare. You.
Question: Fine. Favorite character?
Pene: That’s just rude.
Question: LMFAO
Pene: I’m kidding. I honestly don’t really have a favorite one. Every time I start thinking about a series I wrote, I get really into it, and then if I start thinking about another one…the same thing happens again. But I really do love this new one, The Chateau. It’s nice to break out of my typical Italian universe and just start a whole new one. Raven is a really great character because she’s strong, obviously. When everyone else despairs, she doesn’t. She has a determination and grit despite by the odds stacked against her. She really is inspirational. And my man is…truly a hero.
