For My Readers
Every time I’m asked what I do for a living, it’s a tremendous privilege to give my answer.
“I’m an author.”
Still to my disbelief, I get to elaborate even further on my title and say more–that I’m a New York Times bestselling author. That I publish with literary titans such as Penguin Random House and Montlake Publishing. That I’ve somehow turned my hobby into a career.
I know I have imposter syndrome because this has been true for a while — and I still don’t believe it.
There are so many things I love about my job, like the short commute to my couch, the fact that my pajamas constitute as work clothes, and that my office can be anywhere, even a coffee shop in Paris.
But what I’ve come to love most about it is the community. In an ugly world where people can be cruel, the romance world is a safe space. Romance readers are the most supportive and loving people I know, and together we celebrate a unique genre where good things happen to women. These female main characters are warlords and dragon riders, they’re defiant princesses with attitudes sharper than a pointed dagger. They’re mafia queens who challenge men twice their size without blinking an eye. They’re business-savvy women running a cupcake shop in a small town or trying not to fall in love with their boss at the office in Manhattan. They represent women from all walks of life–and we celebrate each one of them.
I’ve never had anyone root harder for me than my readers. I’ve never been in a space where women are so vocally supportive of other women. I consider it a great honor to be a part of this community, and it’s this community of readers that’s given me all of this.
Thank you for reading my books. Thank you for supporting my career. Thank you for letting me a part of this wonderful, special, one-of-a-kind world.
